HFA EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
HAMS FOR ACTION (HFA) is a nationwide group of individuals who call for REASONABLE regulation of outdoor Amateur Radio Service antennas -- in place of the TOTAL bans, of all such antennas, that are commonly imposed by Homeowners’ Associations (HOA) and/or landlords. These total bans on ham radio antennas function in practice as bans on any ham radio activity in the affected neighborhoods.
One consequence is disconnection of the affected neighborhoods from Emergency Communications services which ham radio operators could otherwise offer. Therefore, the affected neighborhoods are more vulnerable to natural or man-made disasters.
Total antenna bans also reduce the ability of the Amateur Radio Service to recruit new hams, who are needed to continue traditions of service to the public. In addition to Emergency Commuications, ham radio’s benefits for the general public have long included technological education, technological innovation and the advancement of international understanding through person-to-person connections around the globe.
Since its founding on July 10, 2006, HFA has set three goals for itself:
- · Educate the public about the “downside” of total bans on ham antennas.
- · Advocate action by government, including the FCC and/or Congress, to substitute reasonable regulation of ham antennas for today’s total bans.
- · Hold political leaders accountable by publicizing their actions, or lack of them, on this issue of HOA antenna reform.
